Bookkeeping and payroll for service businesses
Tour companies, trades, schools, and consultants: if you sell your time and skills, I’ll keep the books behind it. Monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online or Xero, plus payroll, with your numbers explained in plain language.
Not sure you fit any of these? Book a consult anyway and tell us about your business. If we are not the right people for it, we will say so, and point you to a bookkeeper who specialises in what you do.
Full-service bookkeeping starts at $350 a month, plus applicable taxes. That covers a simple business: one bank account, around 20 transactions a month, no payment processor or sales tax return, monthly reports, a monthly meeting, and your software.

Sound familiar?
Busy seasons, lumpy cash, and receipts everywhere
Business expenses go on your personal card, and the receipts never make it back.
Your busy season is great, until you’re not sure the cash will last through the quiet one.
You pay staff and contractors, and year-end slips feel like a guessing game.
Behind on your books? That’s a starting point, not a problem with you.
What I handle for service businesses
Books built for businesses that sell their time and skills
I work with tour companies, trades, schools and consultants across Canada. I set your books up around how your business earns and spends, then keep them current every month, so you always know where you stand.
- Trust in your numbers: bank, credit card, and loan accounts reconciled every month
- Know who’s paid: customer payments from Stripe, PayPal, QuickBooks Payments or your booking software matched to your deposits
- Receipts off your mind: snap a photo in your secure client portal, even for business costs you paid on a personal card
- Calmer quiet seasons: customer deposits and seasonal swings tracked, so cash flow is easier to see
- Payday handled: pay runs, CRA remittances, T4s, ROEs, and workers’ compensation reporting (WCB, WSIB or WorkSafeBC)
- An easier year-end: contractor payments tracked, with T4A or T5018 slips done
- Proof attached to every transaction that has one: your receipts and bills sit on the transactions themselves in QuickBooks Online, so a CRA review is a look-up rather than a search
- Sales tax that doesn’t sneak up on you: GST, HST, PST, or RST tracked all year, with remittances prepared
- Numbers you understand: monthly reports and a review meeting in plain language
What owners want from their books
Know where you stand, in every season
Plan for slow seasons
See last year’s busy and quiet months side by side, so you can set cash aside for the slow stretch before it arrives.
Payroll and books in one place
Pay runs, remittances, and year-end slips handled alongside your bookkeeping, so nothing lives in a separate pile.
Receipts off your mind
Snap a photo of receipts from wherever the job takes you, and they’re recorded where they belong.
“She is so professional, organised and makes my bookkeeping easy. I live 4 hours from Corrie but this isn’t an issue as she has everything set up online. Highly recommend working with her.”
Questions from service businesses
Business owners often ask
Can you run our payroll too?
Yes. Add payroll to your monthly bookkeeping: you approve the hours, and I enter them into your payroll software, handle CRA remittances, and prepare T4s, T4As and ROEs. I work with Wagepoint, Payworks, ADP and others.
How much does it cost?
Every quote is built just right for your business, based on your number of transactions, bank or credit card accounts, payroll and how complex your books are. You get a fixed monthly price in writing before any work starts. Full-service bookkeeping starts at $350 a month, plus applicable taxes. See sample pricing.
I’m just starting out. Is there a lighter option than full service?
Yes. Plenty of new businesses start with DIY Assisted Bookkeeping: you post your own transactions, and I reconcile your accounts, review your books and monthly financial reports, and meet with you monthly. For sales tax, you prepare, I review, you file. It starts at $180 a month, plus applicable taxes, and you can move to full service whenever you’re ready. See sample pricing.
Our business is seasonal. How does the fee work?
You get one fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing before we start. I review it once a year and adjust it if your transactions, bank accounts or complexity change.
When do I need to register for GST?
This is general information, and CRA or your accountant has the final word on your situation. Here is how the rule works. The $30,000 small supplier threshold counts a business’s taxable sales, before expenses, across all of its owner’s businesses, including sales by any associates (as CRA defines them). Exempt sales do not count toward it, which matters a lot if some of what you do is exempt.
There are two ways to cross it. A business that passes $30,000 over four calendar quarters in a row, but not in any single one, stays a small supplier until the end of the month after that quarter. It must start charging GST no later than its first sale after that, and register within 29 days. A business that passes $30,000 in a single calendar quarter stops being a small supplier on the sale that took it over: GST applies to that sale, with 29 days to register.
That’s why I watch the number all year rather than at year-end.
My books are behind. Where do we start?
Right where you are, with no lecture. You get a catch-up plan and a price in writing before any work starts, then I keep you current every month.
Do you do my taxes?
No. I keep your books and sales tax remittances ready and work alongside your accountant. If you need one, I can refer you to a CPA I trust.
My business isn’t in Alberta. Can you still help?
Yes. Everything is online, and I work with businesses across Canada, whether you charge GST, HST, PST, or RST.
The one exception is Quebec. I don’t take on clients there, because Quebec has its own sales tax, payroll and reporting rules. I recommend finding a bookkeeper who is fluent in French and knows Quebec’s regulations.
